What We Do
Empowering Through Programs
Discover how EMO YA M’MBONDO LEXINGTON (EML) is making a meaningful impact in our community through a diverse range of programs. Each initiative is carefully designed to empower, support, and enrich the lives of our members. Explore how we’re fostering unity, progress, and lasting change in the African and M’mbembe M’mbondo community.
Fizi Projects (FP)
Community mobilization is another activity done within the projects, programs, and portfolios of the organization. We provide assistance to the elderly, people with chronic diseases, and other disadvantaged individuals across all our locations, including the Democratic Republic of Congo (Fizi territory). We come together through conferences, discussions, conference calls, interregional and interstate visits, and exchanges. The organization conducts weekly and monthly meetings through conference calls, Skype, or Zoom and other electronic means to exchange strategies for addressing the various challenges facing its beneficiaries.
Economic Development (ED)
Transportation is a crucial service we provide to disadvantaged families, ensuring timely access to essential services. We offer free transportation for sensitive appointments, food stores, work, and other necessities. Our services extend to driving assistance and self-reliance education. We also facilitate language translation and interpretation, involving volunteers proficient in English, French, Kiswahili, Kibembe, Lingala, and other African languages. Dedicated agents assist individuals in finding desired jobs, along with providing education on micro projects and entrepreneurship. Furthermore, we foster a sense of community through diverse sports teams, organizing competitions to develop talents, reduce stress, and promote healthier lives.
Social and Environment Protection (SEP)
Citizenship education is a key initiative within our organization, nurturing a patriotic spirit in our community members wherever they reside. We actively advocate for individuals within our community who experience abuse, necessitating legal intervention. Common cases involve illegal acts against our clients, such as harassment, abuse, and neglect. We stand by victims, collaborating with attorneys and other professionals to provide support. Additionally, we offer driver’s license education, with dedicated centers aiding refugees and target groups in training and obtaining their driver’s license in respective regions and countries.
Welcome Lex (WL)
This program is dedicated to assisting newcomers in settling into their new environment. Those who’ve lived abroad understand the challenges of learning a new language, making friends, adapting to a new culture, and securing housing and employment. Integration is paramount for refugees. Initiatives like language classes, cultural understanding, and support systems are essential. Some countries allow groups to organize and raise funds to bring refugees to their country and facilitate their settlement. Nearly 300,000 individuals have arrived in Canada through sponsorship since the 1970s, and other countries, including the UK, Australia, and Ireland, are gearing up to follow suit. Reuniting families is a crucial aspect, as having close family members around greatly aids individuals in adjusting to a different life and culture, often while recovering from deep trauma.
Funeral Mutual Aid (FMA)
The Funeral Mutual Aid (FMA) program holds a special place within the heart of EMO YA M’MBONDO LEXINGTON. Over the past decade, FMA has touched the lives of more than 800 families who have experienced the profound loss of a loved one. This program extends a compassionate hand during one of life’s most challenging moments, providing not only crucial economic support but also offering unwavering emotional and spiritual comfort to those in their time of need.
